Masses under Covid Level Two

posted 12 Aug 2020, 14:55 by Cathedral Admin

Alert Level 2 Mass - Mass will still be held during Alert Level 2. During the pandemic your obligation to attend Mass does not apply. Remember if you are unwell, vulnerable or elderly, please stay home.
Assumption Mass will be held on Friday 6.00pm and Saturday 8.00am. If the numbers of people attending the Mass are over 100 we will not be able to continue with the Mass. So unless essential please stay at home. There is no booking system for the Assumption Masses.
Sunday Mass - an online booking system is operating for all Sunday Masses or you can phone the Parish Office 9.00am - 1.00pm to book. Click the link below to book or use your parish app.
Weekday Masses require no booking and confession times are as normal.
If the Alert Level is raised then the churches will most likely be closed. If the Level is lowered then no restrictions apply.

Planned Giving Receipts

posted 12 May 2020, 15:51 by Cathedral Admin

Planned Giving Receipts - Thank you to the people that have contacted me to change their PG envelope donation to electronic deposit. We appreciate the continued support from parishioners as we negotiate this difficult time. As we are now in Alert Level 3 we hope to be able to access the parish office and process the 2019/20 receipts by the end of the week. As the church is still not permitted to open the receipts will be posted out. If anyone has changed address in the past year and not let us know could you please email me to update your records -

UPDATE: We have become aware of an issue that may affect some of the Tax Receipts for our parishioners who gave by Automatic Payment over a short period. We are working on getting the receipts corrected and reissued. Please bear with us while we work through it with the IT people. -6 May 2020

Please keep in your prayers Pat Savage who died this morning. Pat was a parishioner at St Joseph's Church Waihi. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family at this time, especially her daughter Andrea Savage who is the Pastoral worker at the Cathedral. The Clergy, Parish staff and parishioners of the Cathedral and St Matthews offer our love and support for Andrea and her family. God bless you all and may your Mum rest in the Loving Peace of God. A funeral Mass will occur this week in Hamilton under lockdown 3 conditions.

2020 Tax receipts

posted 17 Apr 2020, 15:54 by Cathedral Admin

It appears people are keen to do their Tax Rebate forms during lockdown! Unfortunately for the Cathedral ours is very much a manual system and during the Level 4 lockdown we are not allowed to leave our bubbles to go into the parish office. We are currently working on ways around this which may include processing envelopes from after the suspension of Masses into the next financial year.
I am aware that St Matthews parish are expecting new envelopes now but we are unable to get them delivered from Christchurch as we are not an essential service.
I will keep you updated as we know more about the lockdown situation but in the meantime you can contact me at if you have any questions.

There will be Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament daily at the Cathedral from 7am to 8pm starting on Sunday 22 March 2020. You are invited to come in and pray during this time and if you wish you can put yourself on the roster for an hour at a time. The roster is in the church near the baptismal font. Please remember the Health Department guidelines and stay a suitable distance from other worshippers. Numbers will be monitored to stay within the current regulations of no more than 100 people at an indoor venue

This is the letter I sent to the Imam of the Hamilton City Mosque yesterday. Fr Richard Laurenson and myself spent some of Friday afternoon with Dr Asad and his community at the Mosque.

To Dr Asad Mohsin and the Waikato Muslim Association.

I send my heartfelt and deepest sympathy to the Muslim community, and especially to those in Christchurch. I am deeply shocked by what has happened and I know the Catholic  people of Hamilton will be praying for you all in this terrible time.

We would be honoured if you or a representative and others from your community would join us at our Sunday worship here at the Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Hamilton this Sunday at 10:30am for our usual Sunday Mass.

We would like to honour you, pray for you all and remember the victims of this terrible crime.

Please let me know if you are able to come along, if you are unable to then please know you are in our prayers.

God Bless you all
